Junior Designer

Working to solve global aquaculture challenges, East Coast Innovation supports companies as they improve operations in virtually every area of the aquaculture sector. We do this by using technologies like 3D modelling to create scale models of new innovations and testing them in local research facilities. After validation, we use a blend of manufacturing techniques to create the complex shapes required for commercial application in the aquaculture sector. We are a motivated group of individuals with an in- depth understanding of the aquaculture industry and a drive for continuous improvement.

Job Description

Our team is looking for a graduate of an engineering program who is comfortable working on a small team in a fast-paced work environment. You will support ECI’s design and manufacturing efforts with creative ideas and energy and embrace the opportunity to learn and share new techniques and technologies.

You will work closely with team members from multiple departments to design components and create 3D models that will be manufactured and tested as solutions for a variety of Aquaculture challenges. As you work with the team, you will have many opportunities to learn and develop your skill set. You will work under the direct supervision of our Head of Design who is a professional engineer and have the opportunity to work towards your P. Eng.

Responsibilities

Technical

  • Produce designs that meet established project requirements
  • Use computer-aided design/modeling software (SOLIDWORKS)
  • Follow established design standards and present deliverables for review
  • Evaluate test results to suggest and implement improvementsManagement

Management

  • Work collaboratively with the ECI team
  • Liaise with clients and suppliers
  • Agree on budgets, timescales and specifications with clients and managers
  • Assist in the training and development of other team members as you gain experience with the company.

Innovation and Research

  • Support the manufacturing team in the development and production of new products
  • Support the research group and perform research tasks as required
  • Develop, produce, and implement designs and test procedures
  • Present designs and provide technical advice to managers and clients
  • Test, evaluate, modify and re-test products
  • Analyze and interpret data
  • Produce regular reports with supporting data and documentation

Requirements

Experience in these areas is a plus however, if your experience through projects and job placements is in other areas and you are interested and motivated to learn, we are interested to hear from you and will determine if your skill set can be applied to this position.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or other related discipline.
  • Capable of selecting and applying relevant principles, theories, and concepts in mechanical engineering.
  • Experience with Solid Works
  • Experience and knowledge of manufacturing requirements and demonstrated ability of incorporating those requirements into product design/process.
  • Exposure and experience in the field of Aquaculture is not necessary, but is an asset
  • Willingly shares responsibility for the effect of technical decisions/judgments on program schedules or goals critical to the organization with other high-level engineers and managers
  • A willingness to learn new techniques while supporting research and manufacturing activities
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Proven interpersonal and teamwork skills
